Mountain Biking - LiveFit Team
Confined to a wheelchair in complete paralysis, being told that he would never walk again, set Bruce in literal motion to take on every possible sport that he is able to participate in.
Bruce is an advocate for the Pompe Rare disease. He uses his passion to LiveFit through multiple sports to create awareness of this disease, that he lives with – and hopefully inspire others that he comes into contact with. He, himself looks up to the all-time GOATS of their sports like Kelly Slater, Conrad Stoltz and Michael Phelps, each enjoying successes for multiple generations.
These days, Bruce is mostly likely to spend his time in any big and wild mountain ranges or at the Crossways 3River Trails near his home in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, probably enjoying the sounds of Hilltop Hoods or The Presets, when not with friends. One of his favourite training sessions is to head out, prepared to ride between 6 and 8 hours, with only a vague route in mind. Packing enough Cadence Nutrition (you can never have enough Salted Caramel CarboFuel bars) is essential to remain fueled for both the planned and unplanned hours. Of course, when the waves are pumping, then a marathon surf session, , ready with a couple of on-the-go Classic Energy Gels, can’t be beaten.
Bruce’s ability to smile through his grimace in all training, racing and life situations is indeed a gift. We’re grateful that Bruce has chosen Cadence as his all-round nutrition partner to compete in and enjoy so many sports, while creating awareness of Pompe. “I believe in pure science of nutrition to ensure that I am not causing my body any harm when racing or training over multiple days. Cadence fuel is predictable and free from any artificial nonsense”, says Bruce.
